Today, Asmongold took to Twitch to respond to the allegations of sexual assault against Rich Campbell, co-founder of One True King (OTK).
Following the allegations, Asmongold’s content production team demanded that Campbell resign. He obliged with OTK’s request; however, this led to a reaction from Asmongold, another one of the organization’s co-founders.
Asmongold said that he thought it only appropriate to take a moment to stand with the alleged victim.
“I’m going to be a bit shook from this for a while, but I thought that it was right for me to come out and address this directly,” he said.
Not only have Asmongold and Campbell been close friends for multiple years, but they also joined forces to found OTK in October 2020. To add to their already established camaraderie, the two host a weekly World of Warcraft podcast titled “Allcraft” which is streamed live on Twitch every Thursday.
Asmon was dismayed at the notion that someone he adored could be guilty of such offenses, and adamantly stated that those who blame the purported victim in Twitter comment sections are not tolerated.
“You are not on our team,” he said. “You are not helping us. You are not doing us any favours, or doing anyone any favours, by calling a girl that comes out and tells this kind of a story liar. I read a lot of the comments on Twitter, etc., and I saw a lot of people saying that it wasn’t true, that she was making everything up. Please do not do that. You are not our fan. You are not on our side. We are on their side; that’s why Rich is gone.”
While all parties are still coming to terms with the emotions at play, Asmongold also wanted to address any speculation that this could be used as an attention-grabbing ploy.
Twitch is often filled with fabricated drama for viewers’ entertainment. But, in this case Asmon made it crystal clear that this was a pressing issue and not just another “drama farming” ploy.
“This is not drama,” he said. “This is not getting cancelled. These are crimes. … This is not fucking drama. It is as serious as it gets. I took action as soon as I could.”
Asmongold seemed to have difficulty coming to terms with the circumstances. He acted much like a person discovering that someone they held dear could be a felon, prompting him to review his entire relationship with Campbell.
Asmon stuttered slightly as he pondered if his lack of knowledge about Campbell could have avoided the alleged assault. His tone conveyed that he was questioning whether he should have been more aware of what Campbell was up to in order to potentially thwart this tragic situation from occurring.
“You have a situation like this and you go through every message, every interaction you have, and you always wonder,” he said. “Maybe should I have known something different or should I have been able to perceive some sort of thing? There’s just a lot of things that go through my head.”
