Mira, a popular Twitch streamer, has been banned from the platform twice in 2022 — this time, her clothes were deemed “too revealing”, and she feels it discriminates against female bodies.
This isn’t without precedent – several other women have recently experienced similar unfair treatment on the site for their clothing choices. Mira’s experience exposes an underlying gender bias that is still present today when it comes to how platforms moderate content which many deem too risque for broadcast or streaming.
In March, Mira was prohibited from using the service without any official explanation. However, she believed it was because of her Russian nationality and that “was born in the wrong country.”
In March, a ban was enforced due to the nudity rules; this came after an earlier suspension in October 2021 that Mira believed demonstrated a “double standard.”
For the second time, Mira has expressed her disapproval of Twitch’s choice; she claims that it “is re-enforcing misogynistic system discriminating women’s bodies.”
Mira Responds to Twitch Ban with a Profound Statement
Following her account being suspended on December 19, Mira did not show the ban notification from Twitch, which is the only way to confirm the exact community guidelines violation.
Mira did clarify, though, that it was because her “nipples” were visible through her shirt. This would violate Twitch’s nudity and attire rules, which specifically state: “We do not permit the visible outline of genitals, even when covered” and “For those who present as women, we ask that you cover your nipples.”

Mira highlighted that the reason was her nipples being seen through her shirt, which goes against Twitch’s regulations regarding nudity and apparel. It says: We do not permit the visible outline of genitals, even when covered” and “For those who present as women, we ask that you cover your nipples.”
Mira said: “If men are allowed to have nipples poke through a shirt, then women should be too. If I choose to wear socially appropriate clothing without underwear for comfort, @Twitch staff shouldn’t ban my channel for it.”
As per Twitch’s guidelines, this policy is only applicable to individuals who identify as female.
To ensure the privacy of our users, Twitch does not disclose information regarding violations of community guidelines.
Mira’s length of punishment remains uncertain. A temporary ban may only span 24 hours, however continual misconduct can lead to extended suspensions or even an indefinite suspension depending on the severity of their actions.
